Featured Partner: UAB’s Minority Health & Health Disparities Research Center, Live HealthSmart Alabama Initiative
Why ThEse projects matter:
Live HealthSmart Alabama, is a comprehensive plan to work with businesses, schools, faith-based organizations, and non-profits in order to make changes to policies, systems, and built environments impacting the health of Alabamians. This program not only offers meaningful guidelines for improving individual health, but it also provides community support by way of neighborhood improvements.
Making an investment in the built environment of your neighborhood is making an investment in the people that call it home. We’re proud to partner with UAB’s MHRC to use art as tool to transform communities!
how it worked:
Community engagement plans were put into place by UAB’s MHRC to garner input into the creation of mural projects in both the Titusville and Kingston neighborhoods of Birmingham.
With an eye towards community informed revitaliztion, the program’s staff partnered with residents and local services/organizations to create accessible, reflective projects designed to enhance local recreational facilities.
Blank Space managed the installation of these works by utilizing both paid, and community volunteers to maximize impact while ensuring a high quality finish.
